5. Spices:  spice cake, an herbal spice tea, cinnamon sticks, and an orange. Consider adding scented candles, small scented lotion, for an extra special touch.

7. Wine Mishloach Manot #2: a California Cabernet Sauvignon, good dark chocolate. Possibly in a small picnic basket.

8. Picnic Mishloach Manot – Salmon: can of salmon or tuna, a mini bottle of mayo (or packets), a small onion, crackers, napkins and plastic cutlery.

9. Picnic Mishloach Manot – Salami:  dried salami, a bottle of mustard, crackers or Kaiser rolls, napkins and plastic cutlery.

10. “Good Night” or “Sleepy Time”: Sleepy Time tea, hot cocoa mix, cookies and milk. Consider adding a sleep mask, for an extra special touch.

11. “Nutty Purim”, “Oh Nuts” or “Go Nuts”: a bag of nuts, a mini-bottle of Frangelico (Hazelnut liquor), hazelnut coffee, Snickers or Egozi bar, and a coconut for a unique touch.

12. “Absolut Nuts”: Same as above, but substitute a bottle of Absolut for the Hazelnut liquor. (you can use the Absolut theme for just about anything)

13. Baseball: Peanuts, popcorn, cracker jacks, cotton candy, soda.

14. “Vegas” or “Casino”: A small bottle of booze, chips (potato and chocolate) a lottery ticket, a deck of card or dice.

16. Breakfast at Tiffany: Items that would be good for breakfast such as coffee, oatmeal, breakfast bars and were able to include a coffee mug that we put our sisterhood logo on.

17. “Movie Manot”: Microwave popcorn bucket or movie theater popcorn bucket filled with Twizzlers, soda, M ’n Ms, Reeses Pieces, movie rental coupon (or a dvd).

18. Beach theme: A sand pail as the bucket and filled it with goodies one would eat at the beach along with a puzzle book that they would use at the beach.  Believe it or not salt water taffy is kosher.

19. The Big Apple: This one can either be a NY theme, or an apple theme. Either way, distribute in an “I Love NY” bag

20. Black and White Shalach Monos: Oreos, marshmallows, black and white cookies and chocolate milk.

  1. another cute idea:

    hot stuff:
in an oven mit you can put hot potatoe chips, hot tamalies (mike & Ike brand) hot sauce….

  2. I’m working oh a Depression themed Mishloach Manot. Just have to make sure it’s funny enough NOT to be depressing.

  3. Leah,
Would love to hear exactly what you did–hard to keep this one in the Purim spirit! 🙂

  4. I have done “have a souper Purim” and put in soup and crackers or croutons. I have also done when purim falls out on a Sunday. “is it Purim on sunday or a sudae on Purim” and done a scoop of ice cream in containers from the ice cream store ( they sell them to me for a nickel) with toppings and a sundae cone. that is by far my biggest hit!!! the oven mitt idea sounds very cute!! we were also thinking about doing some kind of economic purim theme this year but have no idea what to put in it

  5. hi! every year I theme my mishloach manot along with our costumes. this year my daughter wanted to be abby cadabry from sesame street, so i am going to be big bird. any ideas on mishloach manot to go along with that?

  6. OK….some themes…how about….
    1) CONSTRUCTION – dump truck….dirt etc….connection: the Jewish People are under construction
    2) From the Megillah -(ashkenazic prononciation) “shoshanas yaakov tzahala…..”BEER OSEM YACHAD”….one beer & one osem product
    3) Couple the “good night” theme with the passuk from the megillah about “v’layla hahu naddida shnat hamelech” (the king could not fall asleep)
    4) SMORE theme – marshmallows & chocolate
    5) HAVDALAH – braided marshmellow (candle) potato sticks (matches) cinnamon (besamim)….etc,
    6) SHOE theme (stamping out Haman’s name)….shoe leather, shoe laces, etc.
    7) QUEEN ESTHER”S MAKEUP BAG – candy lipstick, etc.

  7. One more for the depressed economy —-
    container – piggy bank
inside a “STIMULUS” item – spicy flavorful something….and something for “RELIEF” – something soothing, tea….stuff like that!

HORSE THEME – sugar cubes, carrot sticks, trail mix – tied into HAMAN walking mordechai through Shushan

JAM THEME….Jews were in a “JAM”…Haman has a “CHIP” on his shoulder….MORDECHAI “spreads” torah…..Esther tried not to go “CRACKERS”…

    I’ll stop now…too corny!

  8. One more…couldn’t help myself –
FISH THEME (the mazel of Adar is Fish) tuna sandwich, gummy fish.

  9. Don’t want to put a damper on any ideas but just keep in mind that shalach manos has to have TWO READY-TO-EAT FOODS in it! Most of the ones suggested have at least one so if you add hamantashen, you have two! Some really cute ideas though!! 🙂

  10. These are all great ideas! Purim is a lot of fun; I love Purim as much as my class (4 & 5 year olds) does! I received a Shalach Manot from 3 “couples” and I don’t know how to thank them when they all chipped in together. Should I send a thank-you note to each couple? Is it ok to say “I thoroughly enjoyed the Shalach Manot! Thank you for making Purim a sweet holiday for me!”

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Thank you note’s are always appreciated, but make sure to return the favor next year by sending them mishloach manot in return!

  11. This year we did an “Around the World” theme. We highlighted Israel – included an Israeli flag, a luggage tag with a note to help beautify Israel by planting a tree (and included the JNF website where they could do so – this was the mitzvah part of the bag), a travel set with 4 travel size bottles and a funnel in a plastic zip container, hamentashen, chocolate kisses, and a grogger. All in a reusable tote bag with our logo. It was a big hit!

    1. Very nice! What a wonderful theme. Did you send us a picture?

  16. I was thinking to do a theme of “Under the Sea”, tied into the concept that Hashem’s Hand was hidden, like the treasures of the sea, yet when Moshiach comes, His greatness will be apparent & revealed ” Umal’a Ha’Aretz De’as Hashem K’Mayim Layam Michasim”

So first, packing it into a white gift box & tying with a navy/white striped ribbon, and maybe a sticker of an anchor, or a sea shell glued on top. Inside: jelly-fish, sardines, blue Jordan almonds, Skyy blue mini vodka, marshmallows, hamantaschen (cuz we gotta) salt-water taffy, golden coins for mini-treasure, and a candy-necklace.
I do need a few more ideas for some real food in there, not just more & more candy… any thoughts?

    1. That’s awesome! How about saltines? Something with seaweed? Sushi?

    Rules for drinking coffee:
    1. Use only the best beans (chocolate coffee beans or jelly beans)
    2. Be careful that it’s not too “hot” (Hot Tamales)
    3. Enjoy with cookies (any kind of cookies)
    4. Stir well or swizzle before drinking (Twizzlers)
    5. Don’t forget to wipe off your coffee mustache! (napkin)
    6. Have a “latte” Purim fun!! 

Apple – good source of essential nutrients
Mike & Ike’s – a couple of friends to bring along
    so you don’t get lonely

#3. We put this on a picture postcard that had our names & “Greetings from Shushan” with pictures of my kids dressed up in costumes representing the continents (not as difficult as it sounds)

In honor of Ahashverosh’s reign over the whole
world, we have enclosed a selection of
    delicacies from all seven continents

    1. North America- The all American apple
    2. South America- Toasted corn from the Incas (we used toasted corn kernels but you could also use popcorn)
    3. Antarctica- Icy cool peppermint (candies) and fluffy Snow drops(marshmallows)
    4. Europe- Swiss Chocolates/Scones
    5. Asia- chai spice tea
    6. Africa-wild beasts from the jungle of
    Africa (animal cookies)
    7. Australia-cute or cuddly koala bears (gummy bears)

  18. Great ideas out there! My friend did “ad chatzi hamalchoot” one year and gave lotsa things all cut in half! My last two ideas are posted here on the bottom of my site http://desserts-with-torah-sprinkles.blogspot.com/
Never too early to plan for the next year!! 😉
